Tamuin

Tamuin is a municipality in eastern San Luis Potosi that has significant natural and cultural riches, as well as a diverse mestizo and indigenous population and an economy based on different activities, such as agriculture, livestock, and pisciculture, among others. It is "a pre-Hispanic city of the Huasteca region in which the beauty of the landscape and cultural achievements come together."

The archaeological site is divided into two main areas: Tamohi and Tamtoc.

Tamohi: means place of effervescence, also known as El Consuelo. It was built between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries and was depopulated at the beginning of the Spanish conquest. Tamohi can be said that was one of the most important huastecos centers in the last pre-Hispanic period.

Tamtoc: excelled as a religious and political center in the region. It reached 16,000 inhabitants, who lived in a perfectly structured society with enough knowledge of astronomy and hydraulic engineering.
